Zipline Fun!
There are a lot of cool things going on over at Garey Park, but the zipline located adjacent the playscape (amazing) and splash pad (awesome) seems to be a favorite among kids with a need for speed. But don’t fret parents, the zip line does offer kids the sensation of flying but it’s not over the top fast.
In fact, the Garey Park zipline is ideal for kids ages 3-10, though individuals that are a kid at heart are definitely going to want to give it a shot. Right, dads? The moms out there are shaking their heads up and and down in agreement.
Zipline Stats
The zipline found at Garey Park is not the super-long, super-fast type where a rider has to be tethered to the cable—it’s kid friendly! While the main cable is approximately 10 feet in the air, the zipline riders are only suspended about 2.5 feet off the ground. Riders have the option of sitting or standing for their cruise above the mulch-covered ground.
And the ride, it last for about 60 feet and goes across level ground. When preparing to “board” the zipline, riders do have to take a few steps up to a platform where they can get in position. Parents can easily help children board the zipline from the ground, and can even race along side their rider.
The video below, taken from a montage of clips from the Garey Park grand opening, shows a quick shot of the zipline in use at about the 1:05 mark.
Zipline Review
The zipline appears to be a crowd favorite with kids at the park, so expect at least a couple of rides with your little (or not-so-little ones; dad) if you are able to make it out there. The zipline is just right for younger kids, but don’t expect the older ones to be blown away—even though they will want to give it a go.
My two kids liked the playscape and Garey Park, but especially enjoyed the zipline!
Why is it only for kids under ten?
Asziya, I think it’s acceptable for kids of any age to use the zipline (as long as they are not preventing other kids from using it).
